Former ASU officers go public: department misreported crime stats

12News reported that, for the first time, former Arizona State University police officers publicly spoke out against their old department, accusing it and the university of misreporting crime statistics in violation of Title IX. In a February 2016 lawsuit, current and former ASU Police employees said they were pressured to change crime numbers so the university would look safer. They said that when they objected, they faced retaliation, false internal affairs investigations and forced retirement. Their attorney, David Dow, described a "culture of corruption" and said the department falsified documents.
Former ASU Police employee Charles Cornfield is one of the plaintiffs. The suit says the department investigated him over his posts on a blog called The Integrity Report. The claims also include harassment, ignoring crimes and public records violations. These are allegations in a lawsuit.
ASU's side / contextASU said it had not yet received official notice of the suit and does not typically comment on pending litigation.
