Around 5 a.m. on Sunday, Oct. 17, 2021, a college student walking from her apartment to work, between ASU's Packard parking structure and the Hyatt House Tempe, was grabbed from behind with a knife-like object held to her throat. She was taken to a spot near the garage and sexually assaulted. The attacker pressed a gun-like object into her back and ran. ASU Police described the suspect as armed and asked for tips.

12News reported that ASU's own data showed 14 of the 17 rapes reported on campus in 2020 happened in student housing.

ASU's side / contextASU Police said they were "actively investigating." ASU's alert pointed students to safety courses, blue-light phones and escorts.
