Shiyou Wu, an associate professor in ASU's School of Social Work, was arrested April 18, 2025, when he showed up to meet someone he believed was a teenager. Police say an undercover Chandler officer posing as a teen contacted him on a dating app and that he sent a sexual photo. He faces charges of child sex trafficking and aggravated luring of a minor for sexual exploitation, with bond set at $100,000.

No actual child or ASU student was involved; the "teen" was an undercover officer using age-altered photos.

ASU's side / contextASU placed Wu on administrative leave and barred him from campus and university activities, and said it could not comment further on an active personnel matter. The charges are allegations; he has not been convicted.
