The Goldwater Institute sued ASU on behalf of Owen Anderson, a philosophy and religious studies professor of 21 years, over a required faculty training covering concepts like white privilege. It says staff must pass a test afterward, with failures reported to their dean, and that Anderson could be disciplined for refusing.

The suit argues ASU used public money for training state law forbids requiring, and compelled employees to affirm views in violation of the Arizona Constitution's free-speech protections.

ASU's side / contextThe Goldwater Institute is the plaintiff's law firm and advocacy group; its announcement reports no ASU response.
